ECSME Signs Service Contract with the National Institute of Education, Singapore
During the workshop on "Education Reform in Arab Countries: Saudi Arabia as A Model," which opened by the Deputy Minister of Education Mr. Faisal Bin Abdul Rahman Bin Muammar, on behalf of His Highness the Minister of Education, Prince Faisal bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Saud, in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Abdurrahman Al Othman, the rector of King Saud University. The workshop was organized by the college of Education, KSU, on Sunday 22/10/1430H (11/10/2009). The ECSME signed a service contract with the National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, to provide three development programs on science and mathematics education and conduct joint research projects. The contract was signed by Prof. Lee Sing Kong, Director of the NIE, Singapore, and Dr. Fahad S. Al Shaya director of the ECSME.
The contract comes in line with the developmental movement in King Saud University, and based on the University's vision towards global leadership through community partnership, said Dr. Fahad Al Shaya the director of ECSME. It also comes as activation of the cooperation contract already signed between the ECSME and the NIE, during the establishment workshop of the ECSME, which was held during the period 29 -30/12/1428H. Dr. Al Shaya added that these programs include a course for trainers that will be held in Riyadh, titled (Inquiry based Learning for Science teachers) for twenty-five teachers and supervisors. In addition to a similar course for twenty-five female teachers and supervisors. The mentioned training courses are also accompanied by other two training courses on mathematics education entitled (Problem Solving in Mathematics).
Training in four courses will be carried out by four experts from NIE, Singapore. There is also another training program will be held in Singapore entitled (Educational Reform in Science and Mathematics) adapting the Singaporean curriculum on the situation of education in the Kingdom. The ECSME will select ten Saudi teachers to attend this course.
These courses are followed by training programs and subsequent research topics related to these courses that will be conducted jointly by the ECSME and the NIE, involving experts from Saudi Arabia and Singapore.
