ECSME Receives International Experts to Review its Activities

 

 
 
The Excellence Center of Science and Mathematics Education received an international team that was assigned by the Ministry of Higher Education to review the performance of the Center and provide it with international expertise during the period 13-14/10/2009. The team consists of five experts from New Zealand, Australia, USA and Taiwan included the following experts:  
1.     Dr. Don Smith, the Royal Society of New Zealand, Chairman of the team, New Zealand.
2.     Dr. David Falvey, Research Connect Pty Ltd, Australia.
3.     Prof. Chin-Chung Tsai, Science Education, National Taiwan University. Co-Editor, Computers & Education Journal, Taiwan.
4.     Ricardo Nemirovsky, Prof. of Math education. Director, Center for Research in Mathematics and Science Education, College of Sciences, San Diego State University, USA.     
5.     Dr. Bill Atweh, Associate Professor, Mathematics Education. Science and Mathematics Education Center, Curtin University of Technology, Australia.
The mentioned team was accompanied by Dr. Ali Bin Saad Al-Ali, the Secretary General of the Excellence Research Centers in the Ministry of Higher Education and Dr. Fahad Bin Nasser Al Almjehdi, Director of the Excellence Research Centers Program at King Saud University.
During the visit the team had a meeting with members of the Executive Committee of the Center, and representatives of the Board of Directors, the Advisory Board and the Scientific Committee of the Center. The team also reviewed the plans, the research activates and development projects of the Center. They also discussed many recommendations and suggestions to help developing the center.
At the end of the visit, the team met with Prof. Ali bin Saeed Alghamdi, the Vice Rector of the King Saud University for Graduate Studies and Research and Chairman of the Center's Board of Directors. During the meeting, Dr. Don Smith, the Chairman of the team commended the Center's efforts and achievements during the short period since its inception.
Dr. Fahad S. Alshaya, Director of the Center pointed out that the visit comes in the context of the Ministry of Higher Education's desire to encourage the success of the Excellence Research Centers which launched during the last period. He said that the visit has achieved its objectives and the Center will capitalize the experiences of the team in upgrading and developing the performance of the Center in the future. At the conclusion of his statement, Dr Alshaya expressed thanks and appreciation to His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education for his efforts to adopt development projects in the Ministry of Higher Education and to the Deputy Minister for Educational Affairs and the Secretariat of the Excellence Centers in the ministry for their support and follow up of the Center. He also extended thanks and appreciation to His Excellency the Rector of King Saud University and the Vice-Rector for Graduate Studies and Research for their continuing support of the Center.
It is worth mentioning that the Excellence Center of Science and Mathematics Education was funded for five years by the Ministry of Higher Education within the second phase of the Excellence Research Centers Program.
